James D. Evans, Assoc. AIA, Lead Investigator/Project Manager and VP of Operations for Forensic Architectural Resources, Inc.
Mr. Evans has over 18 years in the Architectural field working on several types of projects ranging from single family, multifamily, multi-use and commercial. He received an undergraduate degree in Architecture from the University of Florida and has several certifications and continuing education hours related to moisture, mold, inspections and best practices in the construction industry. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), National Institute of Building Science (NIBS), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), and United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Over the years he has worked with several different Investors/Developers, Architects, Builders, Building Scientists, & General Contractors. He is a building envelope and indoor air quality expert who investigates building failures and indoor air problems. Mr. Evans is recognized as an authority on moisture related problems and indoor air quality in hot humid climates. He has worked with several companies on implementing a building performance assurance plan that includes protocols, processes and procedures on limiting their liabilities for their projects.
Mr. Evans has been a leader in educating builders, homeowners, general contractors, tradesmen, designers, remediation contractors, building owners & facility managers. He is one of the foremost authorities on energy efficient construction techniques and promotes the “Building America” programs. He has conducted forensic investigations and served as an expert witness on building failures throughout Florida. Mr. Evans is an expert in areas of rain penetration, vapor barriers, air quality and durability and construction technology. He specializes in rain/storm damage and mold/microbial contamination of buildings.
Mr. Evans is very involved with educating the building owners and managers on issues with pandemic planning and bio-terrorism on building facilities. He stays in touch with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Defense and the Center for Disease Control on the latest information available and promotes all on being prepared against any fast-moving highly pathogenic viruses or threats which has the potential to affect any and every public building.
Mr. Evans is an acclaimed public speaker and lecturer in architecture, building science and indoor air quality. His seminars and presentations on all types building issues are attended by professionals in the building construction industry. Mr. Evans is the author of several publications and power point presentations; “Are you loaning money for a sick building”, “Seven critical musts of building ownership”, “Outpatient facility – Is your building standard of care proactive or reactive”,” Three critical musts that a building contingency plan should be in place for disaster preparedness”, “Contingency planning – The merging need of disaster preparedness”, “Anatomy and diagnosis of roof failure”, “Building fitness for the building envelope.” He recently completed a seminar for the Indoor Air Quality Association on “Protecting your project against mold during construction Proactive vs. Reactive measures.” He will be speaking soon on “Designing and building best practices in hot humid climates.” & “Managing moisture in the building envelope systems.”
